It May Be A Dirty Job… But Someone Has To Do It! Don’t worry. Leave it to the professionals at Mac Plumbing.

Do you know what a septic tank does?

Your Septic Tank is a large underground, a watertight tank that collects all your household water. Households use a lot of water through different sources:

  • The kitchen sink
  • The garbage disposal
  • The dishwasher
  • The washing machine
  • The bathroom sink
  • The toilet
  • The bathtub

That water (and everything you’ve added to it) has to go somewhere, and that place is the septic tank. Think about all the stuff you put down your drain. Let’s take the garbage disposal for instance. Remember the food you scraped off the plates from Thanksgiving dinner 2 years ago? That went to your septic tank and is still living there.

The basics:

In your septic tank, you have the heavier matter that sinks to the bottom of the tank creating sludge. Organic matter like oils and fat proteins, float to the top causing a scum. And there’s also the yucky grey water (effluent) that initially carried the sludge and scum to the tank. The grey water flows out of the tank and is diverted to a Drain Field and is absorbed into the soil. Eventually, that sludge and scum start to rise and you need to get it pumped. That’s where Mac Plumbing comes in.
